What is inflammation and why is it bad for the body?

When immune system senses danger (stress, infection, toxins, etc), it activates proteins that are meant to protect the body’s cells and tissues. Typically, the immune cells appear to protect our body from stress (like swollen lymph nodes during a cold or the adrenaline response in a dangerous situation), but when the immune cells overreact or there is a constant stress source, the buildup of inflammation can hurt our bodies.
